There is absolutely no reason to struggle with your mouse.  The double click speed can be easily adjusted.

Click on the Start menu and then on Control Panel.  If yours does not look like this have a look in the left hand panel of the Control Panel dialogue box and click on Switch to Classic View.

Double click the Mouse icon and you will see the Mouse Properties dialogue box.  Then it's simple.

In the Double Click Speed section use your mouse to click and drag the slider toward Fast or Slow.  Use the folder icon to the right to test the speed.  Repeat until the double click speed is completely comforatable then click Apply.

Note that you can also change it to the left-handed mouse in the Button Configuration Section.

You might want to change the speed at which your pointer goes across the screen.  To do this clik the Point Options Tab.  In the Motion section you can change the pointer speed.  In the Visibility section you can click the Display Pointer Trails box.  Pointer trails make the pointer easier to see.

Click Apply then OK.

Make your mouse obey you.
