I have just found a wonderful piece of soft ware.  A trial version is free on the Internet. It takes the thinking out of the job of resizing photographs.

It’s called JpegSizer.

Down load it for free, install and open.  The dialogue box is straightforward and the steps are numbered one to four.

In this case the steps were

1.    Resizing image
2.    In order to email
3.    I haven’t bothered to review before sending
4.    Then I have browsed my My Pictures folder to find the        Big Dog picture.

When all the dialogue box details are filled in Outlook opens a new email with the picture already attached at a suitable size. Click Send and the email will go to your Outlook Outbox

What if you don’t use Outlook?

Have a look in your My Documents folder and you will see that an folder labelled Email has been created with all the pictures that you have resized for email.  These can be browsed for in the usual way when you send an email attachment.

Similarly if you resize for MySpace a folder called MySpace will appear in My Documents.

I love neat software like this, especially when it only costs me £8.00.  I used PayPal and it took me less than five minutes.
