I recently took on a new allotment and when they wanted to start an Allotment Association I rashly volunteered to do any jobs needed. I was late at the first meeting and arrived to find I had already been appointed as treasurer.
Gardening I love but I am not very good at keeping records.
Then there are all those letters, requests and reminders and the official title doesn’t help – “Escourt Close Allotment Association”. You wouldn’t want to have to type that in too often.
We all find phrases like that when we are writing and one of the first things I did before doing any correspondence was use my Word AutoText feature.
I started Word then typed and selected (highlighted) the phrase Escourt Close Allotment Association. Then I clicked on the Tools menu and AutoCorrect.
This gave me the AutoCorrect dialogue box.
Step 1 Click the Auto Text Tab
Step 2 Note the text that you highlighted is in the AutoText entries here: box. Check that it is correct.
Step 3 Click Add then OK
Now all I have to do is type the first four characters of my phrase, then the Enter key and the rest just falls in.
I first learned about this when my daughter was doing her Religious Education GCSE and had to keep typing “Jewish Temple Authorities”.
